Calling All Anti-Authoritarian/Anarchist People of Color to network and organize during the pReNC 5.3 in the Twin Cities, MN
Over the last year anti-authoritarian/anarchist people of color all over the country have felt the desire and urgency to actively support and prepare for the call to action to go “All Out At the DNC.” This call to ction is in solidarity with the American Indian Movement (AIM), the MOVE Organization, and friends and family of Mumia Abu-Jamal for all radicals and progressives to actively resist the Democrats and the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver, CO August 2008. These diverse and strong people of the left are fighting back for the freedom of their families, friends and lovers [Leonard Peltier, Mumia Abu-Jamal, the MOVE 9 and many other oppressed peoples].
In August 2008 the MOVE Organization will have served their 30 year minimum sentence for a single death they did not commit. In August 2008 Leonard Peltier will have his first opportunity in years to have his case heard again in the court system (after the Clinton’s left him in jail and did not pardon him). As of March 2008, the courts ruled on Mumia Abu-Jamal’s eliminating the future of his life with only to options, execution or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
APOC are preparing to actively resisting the DNC while keeping the community of Denver (especially the oppressed and disenfranchised people) as a key element of our resistance.
APOC will have meetings to discuss APOC DNC proposals during the weekend of May 3rd in the Minneapolis, MN coinciding with the pReNC 5.3. Most likely these meetings will happen on Friday, May 2nd afternoon and evening and Saturday, May 3rd in the morning. RSVP to the prenc working group ASAP.
The pReNC 5.3 is the second general gathering for planning radical resistance to the 2008 Republican National Convention. It will take place on May 3rd in the Twin Cities.
During the first pReNC, over 100 anarchists and anti-authoritarians came together and created a general strategy to maximize our effectiveness at the RNC. Since then there have been many regional consultas, dozens of tourstops around the country and countless smaller meetings in radical communities for what will be one of the largest anarchist mobilizations in years. Now it is time to get more concrete in our planning; it’s time to figure out how this strategy is going to be put into action.
This gathering will function as a spokescouncil, and is open to representatives from all groups familiar with the strategy and that have begun organizing how they will fit into it (not limited to anarchists), including support roles (medics, legal, food, etc). We are asking that groups send 1-3 spokespeople. All attending must RSVP to prenc (a) riseup.net by April 17th in order to register and be vouched for.
The Welcoming Committee is in the process of formulating a sexual assault policy in an attempt to create safer spaces at the pReNC. All attendees will be required to review that policy prior to the event, and to follow through as necessary.
Check our website for a ride and housing board. You are encouraged to come early and stay late to get a feel for the cities and attend mayday festivities on May 1st and 4th. The more strategizing and planning we do now, the more powerful we will be come convention crashing time! See you on 5.3.
