MKEtoRNC Statement

The following statement was posted to the MKEtoRNC blog:

On April 6th, at the Bash Back! Convergence in Chicago an Anarchist People Of Color caucus expressed offense with, among other things, three images promoting the websites of MKEtoRNC and the RNC Welcoming Committee and NoRNC. Thus, as with the RNC-WC, MKEtoRNC will honor the request that the images be destroyed. We echo the call that all images and reproductions thereof be destroyed and that distribution of them cease. By the time this statement is issued, the images will have been removed from myspace.com/mketornc.

Prior to the reportback from this caucus, the issue with these images had not been brought to the attention of anyone involved with MKEtoRNC. Though MKEtoRNC didn’t print or distribute these images, we take full responsibility that they were on our website. As a group of many individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives, no single image can possibly represent us collectively. We do not, and have never wished to offend our allies and potential allies, and are sincerely sorry that people were offended.

These images have sparked many conversations concerning issues of appropriation, privilege and detournement. In working toward our collective liberation, these are issues that must continue to be discussed in a positive yet critical manner. Let us work for thriving populations of elephants, and
toward the extinction of politicians in all their varieties.

See ya’ll in the streets,

MKEtoRNC
