Wednesday, December 3rd @ 7PM – $5 Suggested

Screening: Chip Richie “Our Spirits Don’t Speak English” (2008, 80 minutes)

When the Indian boarding school system was established, its mission was set: kill the Indian to save the man. “Our Spirits Don’t Speak English: Indian Boarding School” documents the crushing experiences of indigenous children forced into the Western educational system, a system which alienated them from family, language, and history. Hosted by WBAI’s Tiokasin Ghosthorse, Indigenous Voices is a monthly series about ethnic identity, sovereignty, and the possibilities for Indigenous peoples to direct their own destinies.

Location: BLUESTOCKINGS
172 Allen Street between Stanton and Rivington
