Smack a White Boy Round Two: CrimethInc. Eviction
Posted by APOC-Philly in Anarchist People of Color, General on July 31, 2009
Note: this is a brief summery of the actions that took place, and in no way describes the situation in full
Dread locked white punks, crusties with their scabies friends, and traveling college bros swarmed a space on the dividing line of gentrification in the Bloomfield/Garfield/Friendship area late July 2009 in Pittsburgh for the annual CrimethInc convergence. Whereas previous CrimethInc convergences had been located deep in wooded areas, this particular one took place in a poor, black neighborhood that is being pushed to the borders by entering white progressive forces.
There were those that had experienced CrimethInc’s oppressive culture and people for years and others who had experienced enough oppression after just a few days. Our goals were to stop CrimethInc, their gentrifying force, and to end the convergence right then and there for all that they had done.
Just a few blocks away, eight anarchist/autonomous/anti-authoritarian people of color* gathered to discuss a direct confrontation. We arrived from different parts of these stolen lands of the Turtle Island. Some came from the Midwest, some from the Northeast, some born and raised in Pittsburgh. Altogether we represented 7 different locations, half of us socialized as female a variety of sizes, skin color, with identities of queers, trans, gender-queers, gender variants, and womyn. With little time and a desire for full consensus, we quickly devised a plan. A local APOCista offered safer space housing for unarrestables, parents, and children of color, we planned to extend that offer to the best of our abilities. We departed toward the convergence from our local apoc Pittsburgh friends with complete support.
Upon entering the convergence space, we each immediately began to fulfill our roles. One APOCista’s role was informing a mother of color and her child about the action and then offering safer space housing for the duration of their stay. This same APOCista also began informing other POC that were not already aware of our plan of what was about to take place and inviting them to join us or to remove themselves from the area if they chose. Some APOCista checked in with allies about our time schedule, also ensuring that there would be look outs for cops.
The majority of the CrimethInc kids were in the ballroom on the second floor watching and participating in a cabaret. A group of us began gathering attendees’ packs, bags, shoes, banjos, and such from the other rooms on the second floor and moving it all down the hallway towards the stairs. We had gone pretty unnoticed, mostly due to lack of lighting.
Once those rooms had been emptied, it was time for the main event. We gathered at the ballroom’s doorway furthest from the stairs following the final act of the cabaret.
On the count of three. One, two, three!” one APOCista said.
“Get the fuck out!”, we all shouted.
And the eviction began. One apocer began reading ‘An Open Letter to White Radicals/Progressives’, while the others began yelling at the attendees to gather their things and leave. Irritated by their continued inaction after about 10 minutes or so, one of the people involved in the action shouted,
“This is not an act! Get your shit, or we’ll remove it for you!”
Some white people started grabbing their bags and heading towards the back, but most stayed and watched as we piled their possessions in the hallway. Of course, many of them stayed pulling back bags from our arms, physically restraining us, attacking us, creating blockades, and trying to engage in dialogue about what was happening. We were not open to negotiation and stated such. There is no negotiation for colonization. As we were approached with physical force one of us responded with,
“Don’t try to fight us, we are not pacifists, we will defend ourselves!”
[a couple of hours of moving bags, being forcibly moved, blockaded, physically and verbally attacked, and yes defending ourselves]
One apocista was pushed down stairs
one was pulled out of the room
one was picked up and taken out of the room
a female bodied persyn was almost punched in the face by a white male when 2 others pulled them back
female bodied persyn grabbed by a tall white man while others yelled get her
a mother of color came in to defend us and pull a poc organizer off one of us
poc organizers forcibly closing door on us, crushing our bodies and heads.
One grabbed a big board that was used to push us out the door.
After quite a bit of time and effort used by folks to get us out of that space, we remained standing.
The cops had approached, a call was made to one of us upstairs to inform us that there was a policeman outside and they were being talked to by a police liaison and the situation was under control. We looked around to see other people of color and a medium sized group of mostly cis white males that were left. While at this point mostly engaging in discussion with other POC and POC organizers some people convinced the remaining stubborn white people to leave, after telling the last white persyn there that they were not welcome in this space, the doors were locked and caucusing began.
After 20 minutes or so, most everyone had expressed their opinion, people were emotional, tired and the discussion ended. We removed ourselves from the space. One APOCista involved in the eviction conferred with a medic to try to regain normal breathing due to an asthma attack that had been taking place over the last 3 hours of the eviction. We all exited, we were greeted by friends, allies, and others that had helped us by participating in the action.
We said our goodbyes, and departed towards a locals house to debrief an discuss the events that had just taken place.
Why was the CrimethInc. Convergence specifically targeted?
It had first been proposed by some Pittsburgh APOC that the convergence, its organizers, and its attendees be addressed initially by a boycott. There were APOCers from Pittsburgh who made a call for action and Smack a White Boy Round Two was proposed and some local APOCers gave 100% support for an action. This support for an action had much to do with the CrimethInc organizers’ disregard for the role they and CrimethInc attendees could play in gentrifying the neighborhood in which it was held. In email correspondence with one apocer that attended the convergence for its entire duration, the CrimethInc. organizers refused to address that they were organizing a white event (an event that, despite the attendance of a small handful of POC, was structured for white people, largely by white people, and as a white space). The organizers did not obtain the consent of any of the relevant communities before arranging for a convergence and went so far as to attempt to buy a building in a poor black neighborhood. By the lead of the white man specifically, white people are still invading, stealing, and colonizing. Organizers also implied that simply because they were no longer buying a space for the convergence, concerns about its impact on surrounding communities were invalid.
There were also apocers from around the country that had come to the convergence with no knowledge of the previous conversations that had taken place, yet were still appalled and disgusted upon entering the space. There were people from other cities that were on call and ready to come help take action once people attending the convergence and locals decided what kind of confrontation was necessary.
Despite concerns, a large mass of white people were brought to a site of gentrification and contributed to it, setting up a white space along Penn Avenue. People of color both within that convergence and within the communities it was situated were alienated. Many people of color attending the convergence were regularly silenced and disrespected. One wonders also how all the bros, overt perpetrators of white male power, can call themselves anarchists. Similarly, those who spearheaded and those who participated in the inappropriate jokes workshop, self-labeled though they may be, are no anarchists in our eyes. To the contrary, within the “movement” these people are some of the most overt perpetrators of oppression. Setting up “safe space” for racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic jokes is not anarchism, it is the continued violence of white-led oppression verbally embodied.
To all those who hide your oppressiveness and your privilege behind “anarchism,” as you can see, your perpetuation of white supremacy and patriarchy have not gone unnoticed. Throughout the convergence, you disrespected peoples’ gender identities, and lied to and ignored neighbors of color. And many knew full well that there were at least two perpetrators of sexual assault present at the convergence (which went against the convergence’s own policy), yet nobody said or did anything.
Why CrimethInc.?
CrimethInc has been/is the breeding ground for white anarchists. They encourage the culture of dropping out of society, which makes the assumption that the reader/attendee has that privilege and therefore their words speak only to those that have it.
Refusing to try to create a culture of calling people out on their shit allows for people in privilege to remain stagnant and thus creating “safe spaces” for the oppressors.
CrimethInc organizers have on many occasions attempted to try to dominate and control mass actions.
The furthering of our (oppressed peoples) silencing to create harmony to just sit back and deal with the oppressive behavior that we face within the “movement” for any oppression of that beyond class. The attitude that these oppressions are either irrelevant or not as important
Having no effective or serious anti-oppressive analyses or stance shows us that combating oppression is not in their interest
Why the White “Anarchist” Movement?
All of us who have participated in this action have interacted with white anarchists for good amounts of time in our organizing and/or lives. Our relationships with these folks have varied. But let us tell you this, not one of us has been unaffected by the racism within the movement. Don’t think these are isolated instances. White supremacy plays a role in everything. The anarchist scene reproduces the same oppressive social relationships we face throughout society, and furthers the notion that oppression does not exist within the movement. This silences many. [Note: watch Born In Flames]
We see this blatant oppressive behavior and failure to address privilege and each individuals role in the furthering of oppression [see Memorable Quotes for:internalized fascism].
Most of us have to spend our lives in unsafe spaces, and it is worsened with white peoples inability to help address oppression.
Euro-centric anarchism that also fetishizes people of colors struggles
Colorblind, Pretending we are all coming from an equal position
Failure to barely even question cultural appropriation.
Continuously fighting for the white issues in oppression. which has divided the feminist movement, gay rights movement and the anarchist movement in the US.
Failure to deconstruct white supremacy for what it truly is. meaning it’s not just about nazis.
The white race continues to be a parasitic force through cultural appropriation, colonization(they call it gentrification these days). They brought and continue genocide. Disease, slavery, starvation, capitalism, patriarchy, Christianity. Each and every white person benefits from white supremacy and the oppression of people of color. ultimately they will serve their own good. White anarchists tokenize/fetishize indigenous and other people of color. We are objectified and become something to be managed and be organized by whites, or educated by the white man. We are sexualized by the white queer anarchist movement. From the eco, feminist, unionist, student, communist, punk anarchists; in the end they show their white supremacy.
Things to address
APOC – the acronym stands for anarchist/anti-authoritarian/autonomous people of color. It is the name of different collectives and groups. it is also an individual identity, and a movement. Anyone who is such can claim the acronym APOC. For example, you don’t have to go to Bash Back! meetings to be in Bash Back, you don’t have to have an APOC group to be APOC.
Our autonomy – the different people who participated in the eviction” came from all around the country to the CrimethInc convergence for their own reasons. some were hoping to see some change in the role that white supremacy plays, some went to “educate” white folks, some went to see friends, and some for the sole purpose of taking action.
Race traitor – there are rumors afloat that the term “race traitor” was used towards mixed people and other who weren’t participating. this is untrue. the word was used towards specific individuals and their personal history of posturing a role in upholding, defending, and ultimately furthering white supremacy. for instance, by the spreading the idea that it is because we are not doing enough, that it is our fault that we are oppressed.
Unnarrestability of individuals- this convergence was filled with an absolute disrespect for the unnarrestability of individuals persyns, even when it was brought up repeatedly by them. For unarrestable people of color, this is serious! It has nothing to do with not being anarchist or punk enough and shouldn’t be thought of that way at all. Undocumented people especially shouldn’t have to beg to be protected by the anarchist community and those they call “friends”. Consideration of unnarrestability is the MOST basic thing white anarchists need to think about to have a mindset conscious of undocumented people. Keep your fucking community safe. Until then, you aren’t any kind of ally.
For the unarrestables that were “evicted” at this convergence, you spoke once and your voice was heard round the country, echoed throughout the community, people spoke in defense of you, and against this action for you. When we scream for support, we are not heard, and our struggles go unnoticed, because we are invisible from the get go.
displacement and oppression of white people… I wont even give lip service this to this point
tactics – This was a direct action, whether anyone likes it or not the purpose was to end the convergence, and the convergence was ended effectively and efficiently. Disgruntled attendees speculating on better tactics or a better message is fairly useless – the purpose has been fulfilled
anarchist fox news, honestly, listen to yourself, can you not hear the white supremacy in your own voice?

2009 Northeast APOC Conference Mission Statement
Posted by APOC-Philly in Anarchist People of Color, General, Organizing on June 12, 2009
No doubt in the days since we last gathered together as APOC (Autonomous / Anarchist / Anti-Authoritarian People of Color), much has changed for each of us. We’ve each experienced new joys and grieves, up and downs. Across the vastness of this metropolitan wasteland, new bonds have been built, old bonds strengthened. In surviving, even thriving against the transgressions perpetrated by those who would see us torn apart, we’ve developed both as individuals and as a movement.
Still problems persist. Despite our best efforts, our most spirited resistance, we remain oppressed. Native land remains occupied, its people marginalized, their culture appropriated and left to die. Zionists, backed by other Western powers, continue their genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people. Gentrification continues to invade our neighborhoods. Police, ever vigilant in their protection of the ruling class, remain a brutal force separating us from our freedom. The rich still control the means of production, while the rest are exploited, forced into wage-slavery, prisons, and graves. The all-pervasive system of patriarchy still looms over and surrounds womyn, while their bodies remain battle grounds. Queers and transfolk still face violence, bashings and murders in a world hostile to all but the established norms. Billions of animals remain enslaved in chains, tanks, cages, and barns, subject to all manner of exploitation. This year, as before, the struggle continues.
Revolution, if it is to succeed, requires a coordinated, comprehensive network of dedicated revolutionaries. Of course, APOC has existed for some time now. However, we have not thus far been able to create and maintain a form suitable to our needs. Many times have we converged, many times have we expressed a desire for something more consistent. It is clear to many that what we need is an autonomous organization of sorts, perhaps many. Our intention is to make this happen.
This August, we converge upon Philadelphia, the disgusting home to the bombing of the MOVE Organization, the framing of Mumia Abu-Jamal, the capture of Russell Shoatz, the framing of the MOVE 9, and the murder of Erica Keels. As we share our stories, our experiences, our ideas, our visions, we will come to understand and respect each other as individuals and make build our community as a whole. Let our resolve and our rage give rise to not just a tendency but a united force with which to cast off the chains that bind us all.
Love and Liberation,
APOC Philly

APOC I-69 Resister Arrested
Posted by APOC-Philly in Anarchist People of Color on April 27, 2009
Please support, write, call, visit and spread the word about our APOC friend Tiga. When the State, the system and oppressive forces attack our own, it is our duty to have each others backs with unconditional love and support!
From http://www.mostlyeverything.net :
Background on the arrest:
In what appears to be the culmination of a several year long case the state has been building against I-69 resistance, two Indiana residents, Tiga and Hugh, were arrested this afternoon. Although the charges against the two include individual acts, for the majority they are trumped up charges of conspiracy – fairly explicitly, conspiracy to collectively organize, to challenge environmental and social devastation perpetrated by the state and capital – leveled against any (not easily recuperative) movement against I-69. Although it appears that no other warrants have been issued, that for now no other individuals will be facing the severe penalties these charges carry, it must be noted that this brash move by the state is a most blatant affront to any initiative towards social organization.
Tiga, a long time Indiana resident, was arrested early today as she appeared in Gibson County court on charges stemming from anti-I-69 actions this past summer. The arrest was made by the Indiana State Police, including Officer Brad Chandler, a particularly slimy scumbag whose full time job it is to harass environmental activists. Tiga is being held on $10,000 cash bond by the state police on five charge: 2 counts of intimidation, 2 counts of conversion (all misdemeanors) and 1 count of corrupt business influence (a class C felony). She is currently being held in the Pike County jail ( 812-354-6024 ), though it’s possible she’ll be moved around.
A couple hours after Tiga was accosted at the courthouse, Hugh was arrested in northern Indiana by a US marshal driving an unmarked vehicle. Rather than pulling over the vehicle Hugh was traveling in, the cop trailed the car for some unknown duration waiting for it to stop, then arrested Hugh outside of a gas station. He was then taken to join Tiga in the Pike County jail, where he is being held on $20,000 cash bond. His charges are the same as Tiga’s, though many of the details of their warrants differ.
Clearly, lots of help is needed to come up with the $30,000 bond. Whether or not we can get this figure lowered (included in the state’s reasoning about having such a high bond was the fact that Hugh was known to distribute anarchist literature), much financial support will be needed for legal fees, as the two fight charges carrying a maximum of eight years.
These arrests are an obvious continuance and escalation of the harassment of anti-I-69 activities in southern Indiana. People in both Evansville and Bloomington have been systematically targeted by myriad law enforcement agencies from throughout the state as well as by federal agencies. Nearly 20 folks are still held captive by the court system, facing both criminal and civil legal pressures stemming from last summer. As the state tries to squash its opposition by ensnaring individuals in isolating court cases, by monitoring and threatening individuals to try to pinpoint ‘leaders’ or groups responsible, it is important to recognize that every such instance of individual repression is easily and effectively repression of all resistance. To counter such repression with honest reflection on its functioning and on how action might challenge rather than support this repression, is to stand in solidarity with Tiga and Hugh, with the best things they or we might fight for.
Update 4/26:
We’ve been able to talk to both Hugh and Tiga recently…both are doing well and are keeping their spirits high. We are well on our way to raising the bail money for them, but still need quite a bit of help and will continue to need support for legal fees. Please see the donations and contact page for info on how to help. We’ve learned that they are going to be arrained either Monday the 27th or Tuesday the 28th in the Pike County Courthouse. As well, we’ve learned that visiting hours for Tiga are from 6:30 to 7:30 on Mondays and Hugh’s are 6:30-7:30 on Wednesdays at the Pike County Jail. They can receive mail at the jail, using the address:
their complete (legal) name, c/o Pike County Jail, 400 Main St., Petersburg, IN, 47567.
Please note, though, that we intend to have them both out this week, so any mail you send should be sent immediately, so they get it before they’re released. That’s it for now….

TWO TRUCKS AT SLAUGHTERHOUSE SET AFIRE

“Lunes 22 de diciembre 2008
Recordando a ronnie lee…

Thinking of Ronnie Lee . . .
Fire has returned to illuminate the gray night on the outskirts of the large city, our eyes shining against its reflection. Two fires took the monotony out of the empty and sad streets.
While the chicken murderers were resting after the slaughter, our shadows, reflected by the liberators’ abolitionist fire, became visible; two trucks belonging to one of the many slaughterhouses in the City of Nezahualcóyotl, to the east of the city, were set afire.
In one gasoline appeared rose-colored inside the cabin and on the seats and the steering wheel, because we had the good fortune of a window being down, in the other truck liters of gasoline mixed with oil was poured on its tires, and in the transporting box (made of wood), immediately after that it was set on fire using a pair of flares that were thrown at the interior and exterior of the vehicles.
Within minutes our shadows and smiles of happiness were lost in the darkness.
The sabotages continue, we will not stop, each time it is becoming more intense, strong and direct.
Our passion will always be our weapon.
Wait no more, you only need conviction and gasoline for action.

TURTLE FREED FROM CAPTIVITY
reported anonymously:

While the majority of Mexican families were preparing Christmas food and were putting on their expensive costumes purchased only to be used on this brief day and were preparing to receive their families and treat them hypocritically, we the Frente de Liberación Animal – Comando Verde Negro found ourselves on the shores of an enormous lake with a turtle ready to regain her freedom and her wild instincts, denied for many years by anthropocentric speciesism.
This turtle was found in captivity living day after day imprisoned, inert with no companions, until we rescued her from the pathetic and monotonous life that she had been living.
When we saw the large lake, the turtle began kicking her legs as if she remembered life before her capture; we left her on the shore and she quickly, happily submerged herself in the water.
Truly this is what animal liberation is, the always unforgettable rescue and release.
After a period of time underwater admiring the birds that were flying in the blue sky and the rays of the sun, the turtle came out of the water, she saw us for the last time and submerged herself again, to begin a life free and without the domination of her body, her food, and more.
Ready yourself to liberate animals and you will do it!

POULTRY SHOP CLOSES AFTER ATTACKS
received anonymously:

“During the early morning hours of December 26, the F.L.A. of Mexico decided to visit an exploitive poultry shop that earlier this year had been attacked on several occasions. Before the sabotage we had learned that this store had closed, first because of the debts that they had accumulated in renting the business and the economic crisis and secondly because of the attacks.
We are not economists, but it is clear that small speciesist businesses like this one can easily be closed, in part by the economic crisis currently rocking the wealthy, and also by attacking strongly where they least expect it.
When we arrived at the target, the building was empty and now they surely won’t be selling the corpses of tortured animals again, so we decided to break their windows with hammers and to paint messages such as ‘Animal Liberation!’ expressing our triumph through active and consistent economic sabotage.
Let your imagination free, take to the streets and hit the exploiters where it hurts them the most!

FISH FREED FROM AQUARIUM
anonymous communique:

One year has ended but our instincts for freedom have not, our desire to destroy this world and to see it in chaos by its own means has not been extinguished; the year 2008 came to an end but animal liberation by radical means continues on its course.
This time we had surreptitiously gone to a market where there was a ‘pet’ shop. We cut the canvas that was serving as a wall. There were fish tanks there and we rescued 6 imprisoned fish from their ‘beautiful and well decorated’ prisons.
After the rescue, we continued the liberation at a beautiful lagoon, where the sky was painted by the setting sun of a special day for those imprisoned animals; the sun set, the fish disappeared in the water and our silhouettes faded as the night slowly fell.
The animals are not served by your tears shed in front of photos of them mutilated and murdered; what does interest them is that you rescue them from the hell in which they live; shake the fear and take to the streets to make animal liberation a reality!
Postscript: If the abusers were thinking that it was only last year that had been rocked by actions and that they would have peace now, well they can wait for what we do next!

VIDEO RELEASED FROM ZOO LIBERATION

“PUBLIC COMMUNIQUE
Lima, November 21, 2008.
Individuals for Animal Liberation.
To the civilian community, visual and written press, environmental groups and collectives and individuals that fight for the abolition of Animal, Human and Earth exploitation, we declare the following:
• On Friday, November 21 of this year, in the early morning hours, we carried out a direct action and rescue for Animal Liberation in the Parque Zoológico Huachipa, located in the city of Lima at Km. 9.5 on the central highway in Peru.
• Our actions were directed at smashing animal exploitation, our efforts focused on the direct action of releasing animals and returning them to their natural habitat.
• We consider it necessary to explain what our action consisted of, due to the blockage of information by the Zoo and the news media that have focused all their attention on the APEC meeting in Lima. We entered between Thursday night and the early hours of Friday morning. We cut and opened more than thirty cages
for birds of different species, managing to free more than 50 birds, including Toucans, Owls and other tropical birds and indigenous species of Peru. We also climbed to the top of the mega cage for birds that has been an animal prison, sabotaging its structure with the hope that birds such as parrots, macaws, pigeons, doves, toucans, and white herons locked up in this mega-aviary could find an exit from this life of imprisonment and fly free. Afterwards we were prepared for the most important part of the action, to carry two jungle cats, ocelots, in cages specially suited to them, and to transfer them to their natural habitat; these animals were transported and later released into wild space, the ecosystem of the low jungle of Peru, in order to give them the possibility of a free life far from the harassing looks of tourists, consumers of animal exploitation.
• We believe it necessary to mention and to denounce animal traffickers and zoos and other responsible parties acting as accomplices of state institutions, acquiring animals from the hands of vile traffickers that find no better business than to imprison these free beings in small spaces like those of the animals we freed. These animals were in small cages, groups of up to eight birds per cage, without the ability to fly or interact freely, they were found with clear symptoms of stress caused by the overcrowding, proximity to their natural predators and lack of sunlight. Many of the animals that we freed were found in an area that was off-limits to visitors of the zoo, that was not even on the map of the park, imprisoned in tents, without sunlight and without sufficient space needed to spread out naturally.
• We denounce as well the imprisonment of rodents, turtles, birds and other small animals in plastic containers with the purpose of serving as food for other species; those we found spinning in circles, typical behavior of animals with nervous disorders caused by confinement, the vast majority waiting for utilization later, demonstrating the falsehood and double talk of the companies that work as alleged institutions of preservation and species conservation, who are truly companies of animal exploitation, always operating with speciesist disregard for the interests of the individuals of other species.
• We also denounce the conditions in which the felines that we released were found; they were located in cages of no more than two square meters, side by side, preventing their free exercise of interests and abilities, destroying their instincts and subjecting their wild nature to the egotistic interests of executives who disguise their business of exploitation as conservation. A claim that we denounce as false, due to the conditions of which we were witnesses to when entering this mega animal prison, where animals supposedly in recuperation were kept locked up for display later as objects of entertainment.
• We want to make a call to all collectives and individuals who struggle and are active for Animal, Human and Earth Liberation to act directly towards achieving total liberation, taking into account the interests of those captured under the exploitative hands of owners of zoos, bullfights, animal breeders, the fur industry, meat industry, circuses with animals and an endless number of places of animal exploitation and death; take the necessary security measures, to ensure safe liberations as much for activists as for people not responsible for this imprisonment, like the wage earners in these capitalist companies, also victims of exploitation.
• We want to emphasize as well that liberation through direct action is something we can all be a part of, we do not need special training nor to be part of any organization, just to act with a couple of tools and an attitude open to taking risks in pursuit of the elimination of speciesism and Animal, Human and Earth exploitation, being always clear that race, sex, color, level of intelligence, language, sexual orientation, or in this case species, are not indicators of superiority or inferiority, but individual characteristics. Individuals are deserving of respect on the basis of their own desires and interests, advancing our ethics to a true unfolding of solidarity and egalitarianism.
For Animal, Human and Earth Liberation.
INDIVIDUALS FOR ANIMAL LIBERATION
Until we are all free…”

THREE DUCKS RESCUED

The Catholic church is one of the most cowardly and manipulative institutions that anthropocentric human existence has had, that justifies the murderous speciesism that plagues all animal species today, with the prostituted writings of its book called the Bible.
In Mexico, many people’s beliefs tend toward Catholic fanaticism, for many years the priests have almost completely destroyed the instincts of wild freedom, replacing them with religious moral monotony and the fear of ’spiritual hell,’ many of these fanatic people are capable of the very worst in order to defend their dogmatic positions and their ‘holy’ churches, but we the Frente de Liberación Animal – Comando Verde Negro wanted to confront this threat so in the evening of the date indicated we cut a fence that had protected one of the many churches in Mexico State which had imprisoned some animals and we managed to rescue 3 ducks that surely would have been tortured and killed by these religious bastards.
After their rescue we transported the ducks to their natural habitat, where they can now enjoy their freedom without bars and without poor treatment, where they can swim and eat what they need.
Take a risk, dare yourself, and you will achieve animal liberation!

EARTH-DESTROYING MACHINE TORCHED

On the night of January 29 we destroyed the window of one of their machines and we sprayed enough gasoline to leave the machine that destroys the earth completely unusable.
Damages are estimated to be several thousand pesos for those bastard dominators of the earth.
The response will be like this, hard and to the point, if they continue the massacre!

NEGLECTED PUPPIES RESCUED

“January 29:
Animal liberation continues on its course; this time the Frente de Liberación Animal–Comando Verde Negro– it made no difference that the owner of the property could catch us in the act– arrived at a room which had confined two puppies. The small room was in a bad state and the animals were very hungry, a large padlock with a big chain kept the door closed, behind which the dogs barked. We analyzed all possible entries to rescue these animals; we folded the laminate door down and got through to rescue them.
The dogs are now living happily in their new homes, where they will be respected without anthropocentrist treatment and other abuses.
The FLA-CVN will not be stopped by locks; though you put more security on your property, it makes no difference we will penetrate your walls!

FULL COMMUNIQUE FROM ELF ACTION AT UNIVERSITY

anonymous communique:

“Complete communique of the action of January 29:
In the early morning of January 29, the submissive firefighters in Mexico City (D.F.) quelled a fire within the premises of the College of Sciences and Humanities south campus (CCH Sur) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). There a machine which destroys the Earth was left forever unusable, and the administration offices of the campus were burned.
The Frente de Liberación de la Tierra (ELF) claimed this attack through a contact; we were informed that the university had been destroying a large part of the ecological reserve where a so-called ‘education’ center is being built, several varieties of trees and diverse plants were cut down, considered to be in the way of their ability to expand their facilities, and their mastery over nature; the progress and education that they extol in their classrooms is always based on domination and anthropocentrism. In this act by the UNAM, it is more than clear that not only do they wish to dominate and mold the minds of students, they also seek to expand the same control over the land and the animals that inhabit her. That’s why the destructive machine was burned, and why we also decided to set a fire on campus, now an indisputable part of the ecocide that education implements, which only wants to produce people who are submissive to authority and power; they create beings who are unable to think and act for themselves and are only educated to produce and consume.
The mass media of miscommunication, which hid the machine which had been burned, only now announced that part of the administrative offices had been burned, and that this had been caused by Porro (shock groups) [groups organized to discredit student movements]; we want to make clear that the ELF/FLT is not composed of such people, who are sent by their bosses to do absurd and meaningless things; our reasons are clear, as we struggle for total liberation (animal, land and human), and if anything blocks us we will face it until its complete destruction and elimination.
We know that the estimated damage of this action was thousands of pesos, but still we are not satisfied with that, and we will continue making war on all that oppresses us and will not allow us all to be happy– us, animals and the land.
This was just a little message, for those who profit at the expense of the destruction and domination of the ecosystem.
ELF/FLT México”

anonymous communique:

“During the demonstration on February 5 (the date on which the bullfighters celebrate the anniversary of the largest bullring in Mexico) various direct action groups demonstrated that the radical movement for total liberation is growing day by day.
The riots began when police attempted to arrest one of the activists; after getting away from the police ring, the walls of the arena were stained with red, black, green and other colors of paint thrown in glass bottles; the windshields of bullfighter’s cars were smashed by stones and sticks; ‘Shitty speciesists!’ was painted on one of the arena’s great walls; the walls of the square shook with the roar of a large homemade bomb, excrement was hurled at a barbecue that was being held by animal torture sympathizers; one of those anthrocentric bastards was physically attacked; there was a small clash between activists and the repressive police force; much later in the bullfighting museum their ‘beautiful’ decorations were attacked, smelly rotten fruit was thrown into the building and stones were thrown at one of the imbeciles dominating the earth and its inhabitants.
At the conclusion of the demonstration, 13 activists had been arrested and deprived of their liberty, so it is because of this that in this communique we express our full solidarity and support.
Freedom to people arrested for animal liberation!

FREEDOM FOR TWO HENS

anonymous report:

English:
“In the early morning hours of February 17, FLA-CVN activists went out for a nighttime stroll against speciesists. When the repressive Mexico State ’security’ discovered us, we got rid of the tools to carry out our action. They thought that this would prevent us from reaching our objective, but they were wrong!
When we were leaving the filthy station, we went with more rage and more of a yearning for freedom for two hens who had been discovered imprisoned, dominated and deprived of their liberty in a church. The rescue was a little difficult without the tools that would have helped us, but we had enough conviction and courage to overcome the small impediment. We broke a fence that separated the birds from their freedom and we left along with them under the light of a beautiful moon.
Now this pair of hens enjoy complete freedom without having to endure the domination of the church or any other human being.
This is a message for all those who want to suppress the desire for freedom; if they put walls in our way we will jump them, if they catch us we will get away, and if they block our path we will knock them down!
Neither the security cameras, nor the police, nor the speciesists can stop us! This is not over yet, the fire continues to expand each time there is more… fire to all that oppresses us!!!!

ELF TORCH EARTH-DESTROYING MACHINES

*On February 23 in Jaltenco (Mexico State), a masked group of people broke into the property of a man who had provided temporary shelter to street dogs and cats and brutally killed many dogs and cats with machetes and pipes. The local police did nothing to stop the killing and instead prevented people from helping.

19 SECONDS OF SOCIAL WAR
anonymous communique:

English:
“Capitalism is the principal cause of the destruction of plant and animal life on this planet, the oppressor and murderer of wild life, exploiter of people, animals and the environment for the benefit of the powerful and the corporations; in Mexico war is declared.
So many hectares of forests and jungles are cleared for the sole purpose of building centers for shopping and tourism, over the dead bodies of the trees and animals they build shopping malls, banks, golf courses, hunting lodges, hotels, all reserved for a small group of filthy capitalists so that they can enrich the base of exploitation.
They deceive the people, saying that this ‘progress’ will bring more employment; some give in, others resist but in the end are murderers in the place where they were born, where they grew up, where they live.
It can not continue like this!
The powerful have to feel our fury at their properties, in their corporations, in their cars, and even in their own houses; we need to torment them, to remind them of the shit that they do day by day to this beautiful planet where we live, to remind them that while they are sleeping peacefully there are many people who are suffering and surviving the hardships of this system.
For these reasons and more we claim the following sabotages:
Tuesday, March 10, 2009:
- A harmless acid bomb was detonated in a well-to-do area in Mexico City.
- 8 windows at a K.F.C. were smashed.
- The windows and a security camera of a bank were smashed.
The video is called: ‘19 seconds of social war’ and in it we try to show how much can be done in a few seconds of our lives to break with the reality of oppression and exploitation, for a few short seconds, to feel the adrenaline of abolition, for a few moments carrying out the fight against the state and capital.
Social war is not a joke or a fad, but a reality in constant development and growth.
Social war is inevitable.
Eco-anarchist cell for direct attack.

BUTCHERS SABOTAGED
anonymous communique:
a ninguna.
English:
“On the first night of the weekend that just past, in the filthy city of
Santiago, we encountered 2 large butchers to which we wanted to
give our contribution and make the work of these murderers more difficult;
we decided to do something easy and which would take us very little time.
Taking whatever materials with which we could plug the locks on the
padlocks, we approached our target. The first butcher had 4
padlocks on the front door which were used to open all the metal shutters
from the inside (that were like 3 shutters); after plugging the locks well
we adorned the walls of the premises writing ‘meat is death’
and ‘murderers’. The second butcher was larger, this had a
front door (with a lock and 2 padlocks) where the murderers
enter and 5 metal shutters (7 padlocks in total); after plugging
all the padlocks and the door lock we painted on the door of the building
‘murderers’ and ‘FLA’.
On the 2nd night of the weekend and with a little superglue in
our pockets, we went to another butcher; this one had two
metal shutters and a total of 8 padlocks which we plugged with pieces
of metal and superglue; we also graffitied on the walls
‘murderers’ and ‘(A)’. The following day the meat market did not open their
shutters …
Plugging locks, breaking windows, leaving a message, etc. is very
simple, but that does not make it less important… we know that
actions like these are carried out and it is not the first time that we have done it,
but this is the first time that we claimed it through a communique,
because we realized we were making a mistake in not doing so.
It is important to claim an action …
We do not believe in a hierarchy of actions, like believing that the action
that produces the most damage is the most important or that releasing an animal is nothing in comparison to the liberation of thousands of animals. What is important is to smash the fear and to dare to carry out sabotage against the oppressors, because they will not stop exploiting through the power of ‘convincing’ and the form of pacifism that some believe in.
A small review of what is happening with our friends in Mexico is enough, where in the beginning communiques were read describing graffiti and breaking windows and now the burning of machinery, attacks against the police and the liberation of animals. More people will see that direct action is a practical and effective method in the fight against exploitation.
Words are worth little if they are not coupled with action.
Propaganda by deed is necessary. Our fight against power will only end
with its destruction.
We send a friendly greeting to all those who fight against exploitation,
whatever type without exclusion and without giving more significance to anyone.
For the destruction of what oppresses us, war against exploitation!

NIGHT OF SABOTAGE
anonymous communique:
publicaciones, expropiando, lanzando piedras, prendiendo barricadas,
rompiendo vitrinas, incendiando y poniendo bombas.

During the night of Saturday 21, we climbed on our bikes and headed out
to sabotage the work of exploiters. In our bags we carried pieces of (previously
cut) metal to put in locks and padlocks, superglue and 2 spray paint cans.
A bank branch was our first target, with much superglue and metal we sealed the slot where the card is inserted to open the door to the ATM room. On the door of the bank we painted ‘closed’ and ‘(A)’.
Then we went to a fast food restaurant where we sealed 2 padlocks, and at
the entrance painted ‘meat = death.’
The third goal was a large butcher shop located on a very busy corner,
where we sealed the 6 padlocks and one of us tried to pass the gate to leave a
message on the big white wall, but had to flee when a police patrol got close.
After exiting the site without causing suspicion we painted all the walls
that we found with messages such as ‘political prisoners to the street’,
‘March 29 in protest!’, ‘Light the fuse (A)’, and we also painted over a mural
of the communist party where we crossed out their disgusting hammer and sickle; we also wrote ‘politicians to the stake’.
Finally we went to another butcher shop where we sealed the 4 padlocks on the 2 doors and we painted ‘murderers’.
Sabotage against capital and the murderers will continue, we will not settle
for just talk, direct action is a method of attack against those who have commodified our lives and those of our animal brethren.
We believe in the ‘here and now,’ we will not wait for an idealized moment to
act, we will attack with everything we have in our hands.
From behind the anonymity of the actions we are sending a big rebel hug to those who dare to break with this reality, using publications, expropriating,
throwing stones, setting barricades on fire, smashing shop windows, burning and making bombs.
And for those who seek pacificism, victimization and movement of the
‘masses’ and have tried all forms of trampling over the subversive actions,
they know they are our enemies and how they will be treated!
destroy authority, its supporters and false critics!
for the daily insurgency!

SMACK A WHITE BOY: REPORT BACK
Oh YES we did!
|
B |
lame it on hypocrisy and a failure to understand that Americans are getting exactly what they asked for when they elected Barack Obama as the new president. Act Now to Stop War & End Racism Coalition (ANSWER) will probably blame it on the low turn out. I can hear them saying to each other right now “… if only more people came out to protest the war, someone would have to listen”. Only in your wet dreams could fucking the war machine be that easy.
On Saturday March 21, 2009 Autonomous People of Color (APOC) blocked the ANSWER coalition march as they aimed to launch the beginning of the post-Obama anti-war movement. You must say their dramatic direct action totally failed unless they completely misunderstood those tactics. What occurred was nothing more than a laughable continuation of the pageantry that is a result of lazy, “American-style” activism. You know the scenario; it’s the same old crazies, middle aged white men with long hair and beer bellies singing “peace is what the world needs”, code pink theatrics, crusties and your faithful Negro tokens fronting a group run by white authoritarian socialists. Have you heard about the new direct action that stands in front of the war-profiteers place of business while nobody’s home with no intention other than to shout into a crowd full of angry people, take pictures and peacefully walk away? Yes, and it’s called “wasted opportunity”. There were chocks full of rocks on the way to visit the war profiteers. I know that I can’t expect them to be that creative, but haven’t they learned anything from the people they claim to be in so much solidarity with? Hezbollah flag waved high! How bad do they want this war to end? I think its as bad as they want to end racism without confronting their own white privilege.
Then there were the Pictures. A ton of press waited for them as they did their victory speeches, just waiting to capture the moment when they reached their climax. Understand that the pictures are very important because without the pictures, nobody would have believed that they had ever even been there. What did they change? They left no permanent mark, just empty threats within empty parking lots. It was the kind of march that follows the leader, without missing a beat or falling out of line. Tell me I’m still sleeping on them, but this CANNOT be what they had in mind.
Yet they pat themselves on the back for getting people ‘in the streets’. It’s this pacifist, debilitating, and self-serving state of activism that promotes holding signs, chants and permitted marches for a good time on a Saturday afternoon. It must be fun to be against the wars when you’re not the target. This is the activism that starts at the rally and ends at the closest McDonalds or Subway. You really know the anti-war movement is dead or at least in its death throes when the same people holding anti-imperialist and anti-corporate signs are the same people standing in lines that stretch out the door of two of the most well known and exploitative fast food chains in the world. The march over the memorial bridge must have really left them too pooped to put their generic signs away first before replenishing their bellies and collapsing back into their typical, complacent, monotonous lives. This is the reason why I personally took direct action to confront the self-important, smug, liberal activists that think that their “kind” of direct action stops wars. APOC had to educate them that an organization that has “END RACISM” in its name can still perpetuate white supremacy. APOC had to reclaim our space and show the movement exactly what direct action looks like. We wanted to confront racism so we blockaded their march and did it.
To all of the naysayers that are worried about what APOC does with it’s time: This was not a public anti-war action. This was an anti-ANSWER distraction. We did not march with them, we infiltrated their ranks unnoticed and surprised them with a blockade once the puppets had walked away. If even for a moment, we broke the fringe-left spell. The ‘leaders’ had no clue what happened, all they heard was that some ‘minorities’ were causing trouble. Minorities? Black, Yellow and Brown people make up the majority in Washington, DC and we won’t leave until we are forced out. As far as APOC is concerned “Smack A White Boy” served its purpose as it was self-determined and we have nothing to prove to you. APOC is building power and plans on even more ambitious direct action in the future. For everyone of every color that stood in solidarity with us: Thank you. For all the people that said we were ruining their march: Your welcome.

Smack A White Boy: March 21 Radical People of Color Anti-War (distr)Action
Posted by APOC-Philly in Anarchist People of Color on March 11, 2009
For over 500 years, the white colonizers of this hemisphere (and most of the world) have subjected people of color to lifetimes of enslavement, torture, occupation, internment, police brutality, poverty, drug abuse and so on.
Even after being beaten, raped, segregated, and silenced people of color the world over have risen up to their oppressors and oppressive institutions only to have their messages and rage co-opted by so-called “allies” within the mostly white progressive, anti-war movement – righteous anger channeled into more “acceptable” avenues whose purpose is not active engagement with that which oppresses us but in the creation of photo opportunities and press releases. In effect, we as people of color are not only further marginalized but tokenized as well.
In addition, we argue that the current anti-war movement is rendered irrelevant by its refusal to address the critical component of white supremacy. The racist anti-war movement is devoid of any self-critical process to acknowledge or address how white supremacy contributes to the oppression of people of color within the movement, so how could it possibly have an analysis of how white supremacy oppresses people of color around the world? Essentially, how can one speak of ending oppression while engaging in the same or similar (in principle) oppressive behavior one claims to oppose?
Aside from providing one the opportunity to pat oneself on the back, what purpose is served, or more explicitly, how are activists supporting the people of occupied Iraq and occupied Palestine by marching on the offices of warmongering corporations on a Saturday when no one is there?
Given this reality, if we as people of color maintain our continued involvement in their spectacle of “resistance,” outside of our disruption of this spectacle, it will further empower their smug entitlement and white supremacy.
Rather, we encourage unity between people of color in order to create nodes of actual resistance led by people of color.
Therefore, on Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Washington, D.C., radical people of color will stand in solidarity with the people of Iraq and Palestine in our common struggle against white supremacy, colonialism, imperialism, and oppression in all its forms and make our presence felt outside of what is conventionally allowed by the racist anti-war movement.
This will be a space of unity, empowerment, and self-determination wherein it will be made explicitly clear that we will no longer be marginalized, tokenized, and ultimately silenced by those who claim to speak in our names or in the names of our family and friends fighting for liberation around the world.
Meet us at 12 noon at 23rd St. & Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.. Look for the brown and black f(l)ags.
Bring your voice! Bring your rage! Bring da noise!

SUPPORT OUR LIVING SOLDIERS – SUPPORT OJORE LUTALO
Long-time New Afrikan Anarchist Prisoner of War, Ojore Lutalo was set to max out after 26 years of imprisonment at New Jersey State Prison and had an exit interview and receiving a release date of December 25, 2008. Ojore is now being told his release date is October 23, 2009! They did two sets of calculations for his work credits/good time, going back to his earlier conviction in 1970’s., which he was paroled from but violated in 1982. Bonnie Kerness said that Ojore was really optimistic about getting out this year given that he had the release date on paper and the exit interview but that he’s a realist about the NJ DOC and how they operate. While his new release date is now October of 2009, he can continue to earn good time/work credits and get it down to an August 2009 release date.
“Here we remain, yesterday’s urban guerillas, abandoned in captivity” – Ojore Lutalo
Ojore Lutalo is locked down is prison for fighting for the people and for revolution. It’s our revolutionary duty to ensure Ojore has all the support he needs when hits the streets! We must support him and we must continue the struggle for freedom for all of oppressed and disenfranchised people of color.
Philadelphia Autonomist / Anti-Authoritarian / Anarchist People of Color (APOC) are calling on all APOC and all oppressed and disenfranchised people of color who want to be free to show our love and support (and raise a little money) for our brother Ojore Lutalo this February 2009. We’re calling for the month of February, traditionally known as “Black History Month,” to be Black Liberation “Month”. APOC and other like-minded radical people of color are encouraged to organize a month of political education, revolutionary events and benefits for Ojore Lutalo and Black Liberation in your hoods, communities and regions.
Event and benefit ideas can include but are not limited to: revolutionary poetry and music shows; political movie screenings; black liberationist speakers; banner drops, stencils, wheatpasting, graffiti in solidarity with Ojore; community potlucks and discussions; and much more.

NW APOC Reportback
Posted by illvox collective in Anarchist People of Color on October 18, 2008
By Brooke Stepp
The weekend of Friday August 15th through August 17th marked the renewal of a specifically anarchist presence among people of color in the Northwest. The gathering took place in Portland, Oregon over a three-day period. Around twenty people of color from all over the region attended the gathering coming from as far away as Eugene and Bellingham. Olympia, Seattle and Portland were also represented at the event.
The focus of the weekend was to define what an APOC (Anarchist People of Color) organization looks like, specifically in the context of the Northwest, and also to define what it means to be part of an APOC identity. Friday night was focused on a social event at a fellow APOCer’s house where folks could hang out with one another, eat food, and get to know everyone who would be part of the gathering. This was in sharp contrast to many other activist events that take place. The focus here instead was on building community and feeling comfortable around one another rather than insisting on immediately “getting down to business.” Despite the amazing community- building that happened that weekend, there was much business that had to be addressed.
Saturday began with a report-back from the NE APOC gathering that happened just before the one in the Northwest, followed by lively discussions about the APOC of the past. APOC, as an idea, began over the Internet on a listserv in 2001 by Ernesto Aguilar and was inspired by anarchists of color throughout history, such as Lucy Parsons, Lorenzo Kom’boa Ervin, and Ricardo Flores Magon. In 2003, the first formal gathering of Anarchist People of Color at the national level occurred in Detroit, Michigan at Wayne State University. Although some factionalism occurred at the conference (see illvox.org), a sense of purpose emerged from the conference in general. After hurricane Katrina in 2005, plans fell through for another national conference that was to be held in Houston, Texas. Resources could not be gathered to change the conference’s venue in time. Thus, 2009 will mark the renewal of APOC at a national level. The gatherings that are taking place now in the Northeast, Northwest, and soon in the Southwest are precursors to this renewal.
In the past, APOC has not been associated with any sort of centralized group, but instead is a network made up of individuals and collectives. There are many different ideas concerning what APOC is, what it should be, and what it means to claim an APOC identity. In fact, the diversity of opinions present throughout APOC is one of the reasons why it is an important presence in left revolutionary movements today. At the recent Northwest gathering, participants articulated many of these points that make APOC essential and relevant. One of these ideas, and one that is particularly salient, was the fact that an APOC organization gives people of color working for social change a chance to come together and take back our communities. It gives us the impetus to create revolution in the here and now. In other words, coming together with other people of color who have similar experiences is incredibly empowering and gives us insight that we didn’t have before that we can then use in our own communities.
Furthermore, an APOC presence allows people of color to reclaim our anti-authoritarian past and ideas from what has become a movement with a majority-white face. This reminds us, and the world, that people of color all over the place were living in anti-authoritarian societies long before Proudhon or Bakunin ever wrote it down and called it anarchism. Therefore, APOC is extremely important because it allows people of color to look back and take pride in our history that has been erased through colonialism, imperialism, and domination. It shows the world that anarchism is not just for and by white people. It is for all people. Lastly, an APOC presence allows a place for people of color to find support outside of our mass movement work.
The left in the United States is composed primarily of white folks. Because of this, people of color involved in these movements face a lot of difficulties from flat-out racism to being marginalized and not understood by their comrades who have completely different experiences. APOC serves as a place for people with similar experiences in relation to race to come together and find much-needed support and guidance.
One issue that came up at the gathering that will need to be discussed and analyzed further both in the Northwest and at a national level is the term APOC itself. What does it mean? What does the “A” mean? How does this label make people of color feel? Some people prefer the terms “autonomous” or “anti-authoritarian” to “anarchist.” The reasons for this are plenty and include issues of inclusivity and appearances. Many people of color in the U.S. today do not wish to be associated with what has become the stereotypical white North American anarchist movement that is less about community and more about creating a lifestyle out of anarchism. Because of these common notions of what anarchism is, many people of color feel that the term alienates us from the communities we come from. Furthermore, it was pointed out at the gathering that we shouldn’t feel obligated to define ourselves by our relationships to racism, colonialism, and imperialism, because all people of color have different relationships to these histories. In other words, all people of color are not the same and we all have our own complex pasts and stories. However, what all people of color do have in common is the fact that we are not white in a society that elevates whiteness, maleness, heterosexuality, money, etc. above all else and defines everything in relation to these “norms.” Because of this, there is common ground for us to work together around issues that affect people of color in particular such as immigration, access to healthcare, gentrification, sexual violence, gang presence, war in our communities, and the prison industrial complex.
The weekend ended with brainstorming about how our current work on issues as diverse as working with youth, poetry and spoken word, hip hop, Industrial Workers of the World, infoshops, homeless outreach, prison work, education, and student movements fits into an APOC identity in the Northwest. We brainstormed particular groups that are already working around issues that affect us as people of color in the region. We identified groups such as OLIN in Portland who do Zapatista solidarity work, Communities Against Rape and Abuse in Seattle who are an affiliate of INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence, Seattle Solidarity Network who are doing a lot of positive work against gentrification, and Olympia Industrial Workers of the World who are doing support work for day laborers in the area. At the conclusion of the weekend, we had developed a small community among APOCers in the Northwest, a plan to publish a periodical, some concrete ideas to be thinking about, and a date for the next gathering in December of 2008 in Olympia, WA.
