Smack a White Boy, Round Three: This one’s for Sylvia.
In September 2009, Madison APOC made its grand entrance into the world with an action against David Carter, a self-proclaimed historian who denies any significant participation of trans folk and people of color in Stonewall. He also frames the queer liberation movement in the U.S. as a gay white man’s movement, not to mention he shit-talks Sylvia and Marsha to no end… (feel free to Google his name and read the transcripts of his speeches.) The University of Wisconsin-Madison had invited Carter to speak on campus, and as the room started to fill with white intellectuals and college students, madAPOC got into position and…
“Trans, women, POC– you can’t write us out of history!”
Copies of a communique were thrown into the air and scattered across the lecture room. It read:
We are a group of autonomous individuals collectively known as APOC (Anarchist / Autonomous / Anti-Authoritarian People of Color). We are not affiliated with any other local groups or organizations. We strive to smash every form of oppression, including white supremacy, patriarchy, ableism, heterosexism, speciesism, transphobia, queerphobia, environmental racism, ageism, classism and authoritarianism. This is our response to this fake historian’s “interpretation” of history.
The Stonewall uprising was a series of actions by queer and transfolk, both whites and people of color. The queer and trans population of Greenwich Village acted boldly to defend themselves against police brutality in their own neighborhood.
We are disgusted by David Carter’s blatant racism and transphobia. Transfolk, women, and people of color have been crucial to not only the Stonewall uprising, but also to the bigger struggle for queer and trans liberation. With his interpretation, Carter has attempted to write us out of our own history. If he takes it upon himself to talk about a movement, he should be held accountable for getting that shit right. Queer insurrection is not only for white males, and we are here to make sure he doesn’t forget it.
David Carter, we hope you get what you deserve.
Love, APOC

November 7th Black Is Back Mobilization in DC
Posted by APOC-Philly in General, events on October 28, 2009
The Call
The Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations calls on all black, oppressed and freedom loving people to join the mass mobilization in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
We are marching under the call:
Resist U.S. Wars and Occupation in the U.S. and Abroad! Reparations Now!
Despite the escalation of U.S. imperialist aggressions against the peoples of the world and the growing oppression and emiseration imposed on black people in the U.S., most black leadership in the U.S. has suffered political paralysis since the election of Barack Hussein Obama as U.S. president.
Thus the Black is Back Coalition is issuing this call to march on November 7 because we owe it to ourselves and to the peoples of the world to unite with the efforts of freedom-seeking peoples across the planet to liberate themselves and their resources from imperialist domination.
This is a call to resistance, a call to pick up the righteous mantle of struggle that has characterized our people since our first encounter with U.S. and European-imposed enslavement and the forcible expropriation of our right to be a self-determining people, equal among the free peoples of the world.
We must act because the Obama regime has expanded the U.S. wars against the peoples of Afghanistan and Pakistan and continue to occupy Iraq against the will of the Iraqi people.
We must act because one out of every three young African men within the U.S. is tied to the profitable prison system. Our young people are placed there by an America that has never acknowledged its crimes of slavery, oppression and deprivation stemming from the brutal, genocidal economic exploitation of slavery, convict leasing, sharecropping and subhuman wages.
We must act because of the abandonment of black people in the Gulf Coast region before, during and after hurricane Katrina and other disasters.
We must act because of the millions of black people who lost their homes as a result of the predatory subprime mortgage scams that made billions of dollars for bankers and Wall Street.
We must act because of the unemployment—more than double the U.S. jobless rate—that stalks our community like a vicious lynch mob.
We must act because of the police killings and public policy of police containment that the presidency of Obama is designed to obscure.
We must act to demand reparations for the hundreds of years of slavery, colonial oppression, exploitation, terror and deprivations that continue to be experienced in the U.S. by African people to this day.
This reparations demand must be made loud and clear in the face of the trillions of dollars of bailout given the bankers and other ruling class institutions that owe their existence to the historical exploitation of African labor and resources.
We must act to declare that the political assassinations and jailings of our leaders did not destroy our will to resist and to win our freedom.
We must act as our statement to the world that Black is Back!
Join the march on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Malcolm X Park, Washington, DC.
Black Is Back and we demand Social Justice, Peace and Reparations
The election of Barack Obama as U.S. president has not ended the suffering of our people or U.S. injustices around the world. While the US Congress has given Wall Street and the auto industry trillions of dollars, the same Congress refuses to repair the legacy of slavery for descendants of enslaved Africans or prevent ethnic cleansing of black people in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. Massive home losses due to criminal banking practices attests to the ongoing theft of billions of dollars of black community wealth. Every day, our people suffer police brutality and murder, unjust imprisonment , depression-level unemployment, slave labor in prison and disenfranchisement. People who dedicated their lives to our freedom during the 1960s’ still rot in U.S. prisons. U.S. wars have been expanded beyond the African community in the US to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and now threaten Venezuela.
- Reparations Now! Pass HR 40!
- Single Payer Health Care/Medicare for All!
- Stop Gentrification,Home Mortgage Foreclosures, Bail-out the victims!
- Free Mumia Abu Jamal, Jamil Al-Amin, all US political prisoners/pows/exiles!
- End Mass Black Incarceration! Count Them Home for Census!
- STOP Police violence, Black Community Containment Policy!
- NO! to US wars, occupations, domination, exploitation!
- NO AFRICOM!
- US Out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, the Middle East! Hands off Iran!
- Rescind the Patriot Act! Drug Wars in U.S, Colombia, Ghana!

Phone/Fax Oct 5 – Drop the charges against Cisco Torres of San Francisco 8
Posted by APOC-Philly in Action, Prisoners of War/Political Prisoners on October 2, 2009

Monday October 5th – Drop the against Cisco Torres!
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
FAX OR CALL JERRY BROWN – ALL DAY, MONDAY OCTOBER 5TH
DEMAND ALL CHARGES BE DROPPED AGAINST FRANCISCO TORRES!
FREE THE SF8!
DEMAND ALL CHARGES BE DROPPED AGAINST FRANCISCO TORRES!
Dear friends,
Once again we are asking for your help with a phone and fax campaign to demand that CA Attorney General Jerry Brown drop the charges against Francisco Torres, the last of the SF8 still facing prosecution. Brown has not yet dropped the charges against Francisco Torres, but he knows there is no case against him. He needs to get the message from people all over the country that we will not give up
this just demand.
**In order for this fax campaign to be a success, we need you to help spread the word and take a few minutes to make the call and send the fax. Please send as many individual faxes as possible. We want to flood his office!
**You can print out and use the attached letter to fax and/or use the phone script below, all to Jerry Brown’s office.
TO CALL: 916-322-3360 #7 for comments
I am calling to demand that Attorney General Jerry Brown drop all charges against Francisco Torres of the San Francisco 8. The state of California recognized that there was insufficient evidence to move forward with the case and dropped charges against four of the men. There is clearly no basis to prosecute Francisco Torres, the only remaining person facing charges in connection with this 38-year
old case which is based on torture-coerced evidence. It is an
incredible waste of money in this time of severe budget crisis to proceed with this case, and is a huge injustice to Mr. Torres and his family. Drop all charges immediately!
TO FAX: 916-323-5341
Dear Attorney General Jerry Brown:
Thousands of people around the U.S. and the world have joined the call to drop all charges against the San Francisco 8. On July 6th the state of California recognized that there was insufficient evidence to move forward with the case and dropped charges against four of the men. There is clearly no basis to prosecute Francisco Torres, the only remaining person facing charges in connection with this 38-year old case which is based on torture-coerced evidence. It
would be an unconscionable waste of tax payer money and an egregious injustice to Mr. Torres and his family to proceed with this case. I urge you in the strongest possible terms to drop the charges against Francisco Torres immediately!
Sincerely,

Video report from Telesur:

Boston, MA
On September 13th, one day after the 11th anniversary of the Cuban Five’s unlawful imprisonment, A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition activists and members of the PSL in Boston attended the Cambridge Caribbean Festival in an effort to raise awareness about the case of the Five. A day of
outreach and visibility for the Five was canceled the previous day due to the weather.
An informational table was set up alongside other vendors at the Festival with variety of literature on the Five, including information the recent Freedom of Information lawsuit filed by the Partnership for Civil Justice and the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five, as
well as a leaflet on U.S-C.I.A. terrorist Luis Posada Carriles. Over a thousand leaflets were handed out over the course of a couple of hours and many people signed the petition to President Obama demanding the immediate release of the Five
Activists encountered people from all over the greater Boston area excited to sign the petition and interested in learning more on the case – many of whom becoming quickly enraged with the U.S. government after hearing what had occurred and continue to occur to these courageous men and the Cuban people. A significant percentage of the crowd, which numbered well over several thousand, left with a flyer and a greater understanding of the legal case. It was a very successful outing in getting the word out on the injustices that have taken place against the Cuban Five, and efforts will continue in the Boston area to increase awareness and support for the five heroes.

Oppose Nike’s Bid to Buy Japan Community Park

The Coalition to Protect Miyashita Park from Becoming Nike Park
1-27-8-202 Higashi; Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Japan
TEL/FAX: +81-3-3406-5254, Email: miyashita@riseup.net
We, volunteers from varying backgrounds, have come together to protect Miyashita Park from a plan that would turn it into a Nike park. Currently, the city is moving ahead with plans to fully renovate Miyashita Park, adding a skateboarding area and a cafe, without even notifying local residents and park frequenters. After the renovation, a fee will be charged for use of the sports facility and, it has been explained, part of this fee will be used to cover maintenance costs. The investor providing all 450 million yen of the project costs is none other than the sports apparel and accessories maker, Nike Corporation. Thus, changing the park?s name to Nike Park has become part of the plan. It is estimated that Shibuya-ku will receive approximately 150 million yen over 5 years for the naming right.
We oppose the plan to make our park Nike Park for the following reasons:
1) According to the renovation plan, Miyashita Park will be converted to a park expressly for sports enthusiasts. This means that a highly public space which people have been able to freely and actively utilize up until now will be turned into a commercial space for the profit of one business. Persons who do not pay for using the park as a service, will be unable to even rest at the park. This will surely have a negative impact on society at large and generally the way in which people come together.
2) For many years, Miyashita Park has been known as a space where many citizens? groups hold gatherings, or as a starting and ending point for local marches and events. Also, it has stood as a life-saving place where many persons forced to live on the streets can stay. This plan would unquestionably deprive groups and individuals of a space for their freedom of expression, and for their daily lives.
3) This project has been forced onto the ward by Shibuya?s mayor and a number of assemblypersons in a top-down manner. Neither the ward assembly nor the city planning council has been consulted, and almost no information can be found in materials that have been made available to the public. Also, we would like to know how Nike came to be involved in this. Nike is a corporation that gave rise to the grave problem of child labor in a number of Asian countries, with reported instances of management beating and/or molesting workers. It is highly doubtful that Shibuya-ku has undergone democratic processes so as to adequately reflect the will of ward residents with regard to this plan.
Please speak out with us. Please add your name to our statement to show your support.

Mobilize Now Against Bigots in NC
Posted by illvox collective in Organizing on August 25, 2009
Close to the 30 year anniversary of the Greensboro Massacre, on August 29th, the National Socialist Movement will attempt to hold a regional conference in Greensboro, NC. As they are inviting white supremacists and fascists from all over the East Coast, North Carolina anti-racists are inviting anti-racists from all over the East Coast to join us in confronting them. We won’t take this lying down. On August 29th in Greensboro, NC the National Socialist Movement (Nazi Party) is planning (hoping?) to hold a regional conference. They have avoided making this announcement public until recently, it seems, to keep anti-racists from organizing a counter-response. The hotel where the conference is to be held has not been announced yet, but anti-racists from across the state are making plans and getting ready.
According to one white power website, white supremacists are being invited from PA, DE, MD, VA, WV, NC, SC, FL, AL and GA to the one-day event. According to white power websites, the conference will begin at 10am and end at 6pm, and will take place at a hotel somewhere in Greensboro.
The conference is, not coincidentally, to be held close to the 30-year anniversary of the Greensboro Massacre, where five anti-racist organizers were shot and killed by the Klan, with help from police and FBI. The choice of this date alone will surely help get TONS of pissed Greensboro folks out.
As there will be fascists from almost ten different states present, North Carolina anti-racists are inviting comrades from across the East Coast to join us in confronting white supremacists in Greensboro. Keeping these kinds of groups weak and disorganized is a key component in our larger fight to create a world without white supremacy. So tell your friends, take the day off work, and stay tuned.
It is typical for fascists to keep logistical details secret until the last minute to prevent disruption or confrontation. Nevertheless, more details will be made available as soon as possible.
In solidarity,
(some of the many) North Carolina Anti-Racists
